The Youth Female Chamber Choir “Cantilena” has been working under the program “Youth for the Revival of Saint Petersburg” for 21 years. The repertoire of the choir is very rich and impressive. It varies from old sacred music to folk music and jazz, composed both by masters of old schools and contemporary ones. The songs are performed in their original format and the choir repertiore includes 16 world languages. “Cantilena” is also a devoted keeper of old Russian traditions of choral singing.
“Cantilena” is the winner of many prestigious international and Russian choral festivals. Recently it was awarded the gold medal of the XII International Choir Competition Europe and Its Song (Barselona, 2010) and a gold medal in the category of sacred music from the Florence International Choir Festival (2012).
The art director and the conductor is Ms. Elena Petrova. Since 1993 she has been a succesful manager, devoted art director, and conductor of Youth Chamber Choir "Cantilena". Elena Petrova has been highly appreciated for her professionalism. One of her most distinguished recognitions is a Silver Cross of Georgievsky League (St. George League) "Symbol of Honour" (2006).
Saint Petersburg is Russia's second largest city after Moscow with 5 million inhabitants (2012). Saint Petersburg is a major European cultural center, and also an important Russian port on the Baltic Sea. The historic centre of Saint Petersburg and the related groups of monuments constitute a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
