SoLeMiJo is a small mixed choir from Tartu, Estonia. The choir has been active since 2001. The size of the choir has varied over time, but is usually between 20 and 30 singers. Their repertoire is large and covers classic choir, church, pop, and folk music.
The choir has participated at several festivals, choir contests, and National Song Celebrations in Estonia. They have taken part in Estonian Chamber Choir Competitions on three occasions. In August 2010 the choir took second place in the folk music category at the International Choir Competition “Singing World” in St. Petersburg. In May 2012 they took part in the IX Pärnu International Choir Festival, where the choir was awarded a Silver Diploma.
SoLeMiJo meets and practices regularly in Tartu witch is second largest town in Estonia (approximately one hundred thousand people). Tartu is best known by University of Tartu, founded in 1632 by the King Gustav II Adolf of Sweden. Tartu gets its vibe from students, cozy small cafés, and beautiful parks on the banks of the river Emajõgi (Mother’s river).
The choir's conductor is Nele Valdru, who graduated from Tallinn Pedagogical University (teacher Merike Aarma) on conducting. Nele teaches music in school and is the proud mother of three children.
