About


The "Bodra pessen" Choir at the Municipal Children’s Complex in Shumen, Bulgaria was founded in 1963 by Veneta Vicheva. Now the art director and conductor is Denitsa Uzunova. The "Bodra pessen" Choir has won many first prizes at the choral competitions: Debrecen, Arezzo, Neerpelt, Varna, Antalya and numerous Grand Prix: "Moscow Sounds", "Chernomorski zvutsi". They have recorded four LP records; studio and documentary recordings in Radio Berlin, Radio Leipzig, Budapest, Brussels, Hamburg, Slovenia and Sofia. For its long and successful activity the choir received prestigious national and international recognition: The Order "St. St. Cyrill and Methodius" – 1st rank; In 2015 "Bodra pessen" has been awarded by the European Choir Federation at the EU with the title of "European Culture Ambassador"; In 2016 - Award of the Bulgarian National Radio "Musician of the Year" and many more.

Denitsa Uzunova was a student of prof. Vicheva. She completed Conductors Workshops with Professor Boris Tevlin (Russia), prof. Helen Gee (France), Dr. Larry Wyatt (USA), prof. Marin Chonev and Krikor Chetinyan (Bulgaria). She completed a PhD, specializing in musicology at Shumen University "Bishop Konstantin Preslavski". She received the First Prize in the National Competition for teachers working in extracurricular activities organized by the program "Friends of Bulgaria" and the Ministry of Education. In 2017 Denitsa Uzunova won the National Prize "Teacher of the Year" and the Shumen Award for Contribution to Cultural Development. She participated in the organization of The International Children and Youth Choral Festival "Dobri Voinikov" – Shumen.
