Marmara University Choir was founded by the Faculty of Education and Fine Arts and its goal is educational training of the students and enriching the concert life by participating and organizing choral events. The repertoire is very diverse, giving an opportunity to the students so they can learn different styles and genres, and includes original choral songs and choral arrangements of distinguished Turkish and foreign composers.The choir regularly performs at concerts and participates in competitions and festivals in the country and abroad and has won many awards. Some of the recent successes are the third prize diploma in Slovakia Cantat Choir Competition. In 2014 and the first prize diploma in Venice in 2016.
Bülent Halvasi started his music education with Imdat Halvaşi. He graduated from the Music Department of Ataturk Faculty of Education (Marmara University) in 1985. He also studied piano with Meral Yapali and Yücel Elmas. Since 1985, he has been an organizer and educator in domestic and foreign choir events and seminars. He cooperated with opera singer Şamil Gökberk and participated several years with European choir (now Vox Europea). He has won many awards in domestic and International choral festivals and competitions. Currently he is a lecturer at Marmara University and conductor of the Polyphonic Youth Choir within TRT and Istanbul Radio.
