The Youth Choir “Canto” originates from the Music School named after Czeslaw Niemen and was founded in 1991 in Włocławek, Poland. The choir's repertoire embraces old-time, contemporary, religious and folk music.
“Canto” has won numerous prizes in national and international contests including: 1st place in “Cantate Domino” National Choir Festival in Cracow, Poland (2006, 2007) and “Ars Liturgica” National Festival in Gniezno, Poland (2010), 1st place in the International Choir Festival in Kiten, Bulgaria (2011), and 1st place in the International Choir Festival in Ejszyszki, Lithuania (2012).
Marian Szczepanski, the director of the Youth Choir "Canto," was born in 1957 in Krajenka. He studied at the Higher Pedagogical School in Bydgoszcz and pursued postgraduate studies at the Music Academy "Feliks Nowowiejski" in Bydgoszcz. His specialization is in choir conducting.
With a population of 120,000, Wloclawek, Poland is situated by the Wistula river and is the capital city of the Kujawy region. The world renowned Polish composer, Frideric Chopin, visited the region when he was a child and the experience inspired many of his Mazurkas.
