The Alegria Chamber Choir was founded in 2000 in Ankara by amateur enthusiasts and the musical director and conductor, Inci Tigli Ayag. Alegria’s vision is to present the world’s choir repertoire from different periods dating from the Renaissance to Contemporary in all styles: sacred, pop, spiritual and folk; introducing Turkey and Turkish culture to the world via polyphonic acapella arrangements of Turkish musical pieces.

  • International Ankara Choir Festival in Turkey (3rd place in folkloric category)
  • 2001: Ankara Polyphonic Music Association International Choir Competition in Turkey (3rd place)
  • 2009: 1st Antalya International Choir Festival in Turkey (3rd place in mixed-voice choirs category)

Ms. Inci Tigli Ayag was born in Istanbul, Turkey. She attended the Voice Department at Marmara University (1981), with a major in choral conducting. She also attended Istanbul University (1983) and performed in numerous choirs as a chorister and conductor. She worked in Vox Europe music ensemble under the conductors Fritz Ter Wey and Rob Wer Meullen. She received her Master's degree at the Music Department of Gazi University, Ankara (1997). Currently, she is a member of the Ministry of Culture State Polyphonic Choir and she takes part in social responsibility projects to set up a bridge between music and social issues.

Ankara, the capital city of Turkey, is renowned as the home of a diverse range of music and musicians, largely due to its well-organized and peaceful social structure. Ankara, as a city that knows its priorities, hosted the first National Choir Festival and the State Choirs in order to pursue the principles of Atatürk, the founder of Turkish Republic. With its population of 5 million, even though Ankara has a population density similar to Washington D.C. and Canberra in relation to İstanbul, New York and Sydney, though the latter cities are more popular than their country's capitals.
