Students six to eighteen years old, from various Vilnius schools, sing in "Ugnele’s" representative choir as well as in the preparatory groups. The choir has developed from the folk song and dance group “Ugnele”, where the present artistic director and conductor of the choir started to work in 1999. Since 2010, the choir has been a part of the Department of Informal Education in the Vilnius J. Tallat-Kelpsa music conservatoire.
"Ugnele’s" program consists of folk, sacred, popular, world music; new, unexpected arrangements; and songs with choreography elements. The members have the opportunity to take individual singing and instrumental music lessons. The choir also participates annually in competitions, festivals, international projects, camps, and trips to foreign countries.
"Ugnele’s" art director Valerija Skapiene works in informal education, teaches vocal techniques, conducting, piano and she is deeply interested in the newest singing techniques and the positive influence that singing has for our daily lives. She began to work in “Ugnele” in 1999 and has since won a number of domestic and international awards in various competitions. She has been organizing an international children’s choir festival since 2004.
