“Schola Cantorum Maximilianum” The City Parish Choir of Józefów works in the parish of Saint Maximilian Maria Kolbe, which has 1700 parishioners. The choir has existed since 1991 and consists of about 40 members. The group is an honoree of many choir competitions, among others: The Church Choirs Polish National Contest Caecilianum in Warsaw, The National Festival of Christmas Carols in Będzin, The International Choir Festival and Competition Canco Mediterrania in Barcelona and Lloret de Mar. The choir’s largest accomplishment was the release of its Christmas carols CD album Zaśnij Dziecino. The ensemble was greatly honored by its invitation to participate in two Masses celebrated by Saint Pope John Paul II. The choir also took part in the musical setting of Mass celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI in Warsaw in 2006.
Zbigniew Siekierzyński is a founder and conductor of the Choir. He is a graduate of the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw. Zbigniew works during the day as a music teacher at the school, animator of culture and church organist.
Józefów is a town in Poland, situated near Warsaw on a picturesque confluence of the Vistula and Świder rivers. It has about 20,000 inhabitants and was awarded as one of the best managed towns in Poland.
