Amateur choral art in the town of Karlovo began in 1900. For more than a century this art has been part of the culture in the town of the Apostle of Bulgarian Freedom Vasil Levski. Any tradition that has history of more than a century calls for respect.
Today, its bearer is the mixed choir “Maestro Georgi Atanassov” at the National Community Centre “Vasil Levski-1861”. The choir performs Slavonic chants, Renaissance and popular songs, works of Bulgarian and world classics. The concerts, given by the mixed choir in various cities and towns, are numerous. It is a winner of gold and silver medals from festivals of the amateur art in Bulgaria; bronze medal from the First Choral Festival “Prague 2002”; Diploma for Excellent Performance from the International “Ohrid Choral Festival 2008”; gold medal, “Balkan Champion” title and “Golden Orpheus” nomination from “Euro folk – Jiva Voda 2013”.
The choir master, Teodor Dobroykov, graduated from the Academy for music, dance and pictorial art in the town of Plovdiv in Ivan Dimov's class. He has been the choir master since 2000.
